Egyptian Border Police shoot and injure Bedouin trying to enter Israel
Egyptian border police shot and injured a Bedouin in the leg in the course of a gunfight that erupted as he attempted to sneak into Israel with a rifle, binoculars and a portable telephone, police said Monday.
A border patrol spotted Salim Salama, aged 22, who has previously been accused of smuggling, as he tried to cross the border at Al-Azraq in the center of the Sinai desert peninsula, the police said.
An exchange of fire followed during which Salama was injured before he was arrested and taken to a hospital for medical treatment, they said, cited by AFP.
In the meantime, Israeli authorities handed back to Egypt four Sinai Bedouins who had slipped across the border, the police added. (Albawaba.com)
