DP World wasted no time adding to human capital at the newest addition to its global portfolio: Less than nine days after the company took over operations at DP World Djazair, a joint venture between DP World Djazair and EPAL, the Algerian Port Authority, two crane operators became the first Algerians to undergo rigorous training at DP World’s flagship Jebel Ali terminal.
Selected for their experience and potential as future trainers, Mr. Ali Ayad, 44, and Mr. Hocine Nabil Moudjeb, 34, completed the Jebel Ali-based segment of the 17-week program, which included intensive training on a specially-built crane simulator at Jebel Ali. They are now off to Djibouti for three months’ on-the-job training at DP World’s newly inaugurated Doraleh Container Terminal.
“I am excited about this opportunity to learn new skills and work with colleagues in other terminals,” Mr. Ayad said. “We look forward to sharing this experience with our Algerian colleagues when we return.”
Mr. Moudjeb emphasized that Algeria’s port sector needs above all else to be modernised: “Training the local workforce to world standards is fundamental. Algerians have the capability to run a first class port, and DP World’s commitment to developing the local workforce will make that happen very quickly.” Both men said they particularly enjoyed the camaraderie that developed between them and ten Senegalese colleagues, participants in the same programme.
