gulf markets witness growth of more than 65 per cent

The marked surge in demand for notebooks during the first quarter of 2007 has led to an unprecedented increase in market share for Fujitsu Siemens Computers in the Middle East. The leading European IT provider is among the top five notebook vendors in the Gulf and Egypt markets, and has registered a year-on-year (YoY) growth of more than 65 per cent in GCC markets such as Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain.

In the UAE, according to IDC, the company recorded its strongest growth increase in the desktop and x86 server segments of the market.  In the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Fujitsu Siemens Computers grew its sales of commercial notebooks and both commercial and consumer desktops by more than 100 per cent.

The IDC report places Fujitsu Siemens Computers as Egypt’s fourth-largest hardware vendor, with a YoY growth of more than 95 per cent.  In notebook sales across the Egypt market, the company’s results as reported by IDC grew by more than 140 per cent over the previous year.

“The recent data released by IDC indicates the robust nature of the Middle East’s hardware market, with mobility solutions at the top of the agenda for both enterprises and individuals,” said Stéphane Rejasse, Fujitsu Siemens Computers ' regional managing director for the Middle East.

“Fujitsu Siemens Computers’ market share increases around the Middle East region during the first quarter of 2007 can be attributed to a number of key factors, including the increase in demand for mobility devices, and the regional expansion in wireless connectivity. We have also boosted our visibility and viability in the Gulf, Levant and Egypt markets through a surge in channel activities with our in-country partners as well as direct engagement with customers at roadshows and workshops,” he added.

“Overall, Q1 has been an encouraging time for Fujitsu Siemens Computers in terms of growth and market share in key markets across the Middle East. With the arrival in the region of new offerings including the LIFEBOOK notebook and new server solutions, we are confident that our market share will further increase throughout the region,” added Rejasse.
