Gazeley leases building roof space in Spain to Solergy AG for photovoltaic installation
Initiative to produce twice the amount of energy needed for the building and reduce carbon footprint by 724 tonnes yearly
Dubai, April 3, 2010: Gazeley, a part of Economic Zones World group headquartered in Dubai, and a global sustainable logistics developer, has signed a 25-year lease agreement with Solergy AG under which it has let out 24,000 square metres of roof space of one of its buildings in Ontigola, Spain for Solergy AG to build a photovoltaic (PV) installation.
The photovoltaic roof installation will produce electricity by converting solar energy, which will be supplied to the city’s main power grid. The PV Installation will be capable of producing 1.285kWp (Kilowatts-peak or the peak output of the device), which is approximately twice the amount of energy needed for the building.
The PV installation is expected to reduce carbon footprint by 724 tonnes per year. It will also substantially reduce solar radiation resulting in a healthier environment inside the building.
The building is leased to CEVA Logistics, one of the world’s leading supply chain management companies. This is one of the two buildings Gazeley leased out to CEVA in Ontigola in 2009.
Oscar Heras, Technical Director Gazeley, Spain said:
“We at Gazeley take pains to develop sustainable logistics developments and include various standard eco-initiatives into our designs at no extra cost to our customers. Gazeley employs many energy saving measures in the conception, construction and operation of its warehouse buildings which are now setting a benchmark for sustainable development industry-wide. The present initiative aims at delivering an additional value to CEVA, our valued client. We are developing several projects for them and we will continue to ensure that the developments are not only sustainable but also that they facilitate CEVA’s business in a cost-effective and efficient manner.”
“The concept has huge potential for our projects in other parts of the world, particularly in the Middle East, where generous sunshine is available throughout the year.” Heras added.
Gazeley is a global provider of sustainable logistics space. To date it has built over 60 million sq ft (5.6 million sq m) of quality warehouses and distribution parks across the globe. In 2009 Gazeley has won a multitude of Sustainability Awards including the ‘Best Sustainable Development’ at the LEAF Awards, Industrial Agents Society Awards, UK Commercial Property Awards and HANSE Global.
