A senior Hamas leader said on Tuesday that a delegation of the movement will head to Cairo Tuesday for talks with Egyptian officials. In a televised interview, Dr. Mahmoud Al-Zahar said that the delegation would discuss a number of issues among them the Israeli-Palestinian calm in Gaza Strip, the prisoners swap with Israel and the reopening of the Rafah border crossing.
He denied that delegation was sent following a request by Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas for internal Palestinian talks. Hamas delegation would include Zahar and Jamal Abu Hashem, two Hamas leaders from Gaza, and Musa Abu Marzouq, deputy chief of Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal based in Syria.
Meanwhile, Hamas spokesperson in the Gaza Strip, Fouzi Barhum, stated on Tuesday that the delegation will review the living conditions in the Strip and the Israeli breach of the calm. Egypt has brokered the deal between Hamas and the Israel a month ago.
According to Barhum, the internal Palestinian dialogue may fail if Fatah continues to arrest Hamas members in the West Bank.
