The Israeli army on Thursday ordered Palestinians to evacuate "as soon as possible" joint liaison offices in the West Bank and Gaza Strip following a bomb blast at one of the offices in the Gaza Strip that killed an Israeli soldier and injured two others, according to Palestinian sources.
The sources added that the Israelis also warned the Palestinian security to evacuate their posts.
"By this odious attack, Palestinians have targeted Israeli soldiers with whom they have worked for seven years. As a result, the army is ordering Palestinians to evacuate all liaison offices," an army statement said, quoted by AFP.
Meanwhile, an Israeli soldier was killed when the vehicle he was on turned over after Palestinians poured oil on the road. The incident took place at Anata village to the north east of Jerusalem.
Another Israeli soldier was also killed on Thursday and two others were critically injured in an exchange of fire near the Erez crossing point, according to Maariv online edition.
Earlier in the day, a Palestinian was killed and another injured when armed Palestinians carried out a bomb attack at the Erez crossing point, and exchanged fire with Israeli troops.
An unknown group calling itself Brigade of Martyr Bahaa Abu-Saeed claimed its responsibility for the attack on an Israeli army patrol at the crossing point in Gaza.
In a statement faxed to Albawaba.com, the group said that they inflicted casualties among the Israelis.
In the meantime, Israeli forces were shelling Beit Sahour town near Jerusalem following an attack on an Israeli military base, Esh el-Ghorab, according to Al-Jazira satellite channel.
No casualties were reported.
