Jordan king: Islamists victory in Egypt "awakened" Israel
Recent talks between Israelis and Palestinians in Amman have so far failed to achieve concrete progress, King Abdullah II of Jordan, said about the low-level talks. However, in an interview published on Tuesday by the Washington Post the monarch added he was ''cautiously optimistic''. According to him, the pressure must be directed towards Israel.
''Israel realizes the immediate need to revive the peace talks in the Middle East.'' King Abdullah conveyed. Talks between Israeli envoy Yitzchak Molcho and Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat, were "good but difficult", the Jordanian leader stated, adding they could eventually lead to the launch of direct negotiations.
But according to the King of Jordan, the Jewish state must make efforts: Israel must choose between ''apartheid'', and democracy."
Abdullah explained that the results of recent elections in Egypt clarified to Israeli leaders they can not afford to delay indefinitely the peace negotiations. The prospects of the Islamists taking power in Egypt, Abdullah said, suddenly awakened Israel. "More and more Israelis understand they risk losing what they think is the ideal future of Israel. Waiting is the worst mistake that the Israelis can do."
Abdullah's remarks come one day after Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said Israel was prepared to negotiate with the Palestinians without any delay. "I'm ready to get into my car at any time and go to Ramallah, even if it is a headache for my security guards. However, (Palestinian leader) Abu Mazen is not ready ", the Israeli leader said.
Earlier this month, Israel sent to the Palestinians, as a basis for discussion, a document featuring 21 points, presenting the Israeli positions.

Jordan king: Islamists victory in Egypt "awakened" Israel
Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Palestinian leader Abu Mazen ,
both leaders should be very aware if not frightened by the current conditions
on today's Arab and middle-east streets !!
in the past , street protest were mostly government orchestrated ?
but during recent events protest were born of their own free will ?
the strings of government control have been trampled in the dust .
like it or not , the birth of this new era will be marked by un-certainty ??
no government will be certain of how the people will react ?
and the people will not know their limits , until that has been reached .
so far this wind of change has only pitted the people against entrenched regimes .
but sadly Libya will not be the climax of this turbulence .
the eye of this storm has now fell upon Damascus .
if conditions worsen , this storm will spill-over and be on both sides of several borders .
if Israel goes to a heightened security state , Netanyahu will be powerless
to negotiate or make any meaningful treaties .
if Hamas were to create a southern front , after a northern front had erupted .
then Abu Mazen , would also be powerless to negotiate or sign any meaningful treaties .
sadly , both Netanyahu & Abu Mazen may have already missed their best chance .
a chance at meaningful security for Netanyahu , and a chance for STATE-HOOD for Mazen .
with out a broader conflict , Netanyahu would not be re-elected .
and with out STATE-HOOD , Mazen even if re-elected , would have lost credibility
with his own people .
both sides , both men , both people , have sought the perfect solution ??
it is way past the time , that both sides should be willing to accept a less than perfect deal ??
let me offer an example of this less than perfect deal .
from 1773-1783 , there was an armed conflict between the people of
America and their British occupiers [ 10 years of blood-shed ] .
the TREATY OF PARIS gave the Americans their independence .
but the Americans granted the more powerful British concessions
in order to gain this independence .
the last British garrison , left American territory in 1796 , 13 years
after the Americans gained their independence .
if Chairman Arafat , had been a better student of history and had excepted
one of those less than perfect agreements offered at Camp David .
then the last Israeli garrison , by today , would have left the West-Bank .
just as the last British garrison left occupied Palestine .
just as the last British garrison left occupied America .
