Jordan's King Abdullah Discusses Peace Process with Saudi Crown Prince
Jordan's King Abdullah II discussed the Middle East peace process Saturday with Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdel Aziz to kick off his four-day visit there, the Saudi news agency SPA reported.
The two men also discussed issues on the Arab, Islamic and international fronts, as well as ways to reinforce bilateral relations.
An official in Amman said earlier that the Jordanian king would also meet Saudi King Fahd to discuss "the situation in the Arab world and ways to re-energize the Middle East process."
The Jordanian monarch arrived in the Red Sea port of Jeddah Saturday for a four-day visit to the kingdom as part of a trip that will also take in the United Arab Emirates.
He is accompanied by Prime Minister Abdel Rauf Rawabdeh and the foreign and interior ministers, Abdel Ilah Khatib and Nayef Qadi.
King Abdullah visited Saudi Arabia in April 1999 in his first official trip after taking the throne in February that year. He returned in December and March for pilgrimages to Islamic holy sites.
He will be in Abu Dhabi from Tuesday to Thursday, where he and Emirati President Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan al-Nahyan will look at "ways to re-establish Arab solidarity and to reinforce bilateral relations, particularly in the economic arena," the official said.
The two-nation tour aims at coordinating and developing cooperation with the two Arab Gulf countries, evaluating the swinging peace process between the Palestinians and Israelis in addition to discussing hurdles placed by Israel on the Syrian and Lebanese negotiating tracks, Kuwait news agency (KUNA) reported
