Kuwaiti Police Seize Lebanese Antiques Worth 26 Million Dollars
Kuwaiti police have seized 26 million dollars worth of Christian and Islamic antiquities from Lebanon and arrested five men on smuggling charges, a newspaper reported Thursday.
The five -- a Kuwaiti, two Lebanese and two Syrians -- confessed to having brought the antiques into Kuwait by land from Saudi Arabia, Al-Watan said.
The items include a 1,000-year-old golden statue of the Virgin Mary, a golden statue of Jesus Christ, gold items dating back to the Crusades and other antiques -- KUWAIT CITY (AFP)
