Lebanese soldiers clashed with Fatah al-Islam gunmen Thursday morning in the town of Qalamoun south of the port city of Tripoli in north Lebanon. Security sources said the main Tripoli highway was closed to traffic as a result of the fighting which broke out shortly before 8 am.
Future TV said at least five gunmen were killed.
A similar clash erupted last week in Tripoli after Lebanese troops stormed a militant hideout.
