Lebanese, Syrian Activists Rally in Support of Iraq
Tens of Lebanese and Syrian activists rallied Friday in Beirut to show solidarity with the Iraqi people, calling for more concerted efforts to end the UN sanctions imposed on the country since 1990, reported the Daily Star newspaper.
The activists represented Hizbullah movement, the Communist Party, the Syrian Social Nationalist Party, the Democratic Party, People's Movement and the Arab Socialist Union, said the paper.
"Although one should blame the Security Council and the West for the deaths of some 6,000 children per month in Iraq, I'm outraged by the failure of Arab people to look after their own people," said a statement released by the activists.
The situation in Iraq not only affects the peace process but also has implications on the future stability of the region, added the statement.
"We have to reopen dialogue with Baghdad even if we have reservations about the government there," it said - Albawaba.com
