Lebanon's Interior Minister Michel Murr released the figures from the second and final round of elections during a news conference at his office in Sanayeh, reported the Daily Star newspaper.
The polls culminated in an overwhelming victory in Beirut for former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri over his political rivals in the capital, Hoss and outgoing MP Tammam Salam, said the paper.
The highest vote-scorer in Beirut was Michel Pharaon, who scooped some 36,000 votes 2,000 more than the head of his list, Hariri to capture Beirut's Catholic seat.
On Sunday, voters elected 65 MPs in the South, in Bekaa and in Beirut. Parliament's 63 other slots for Mount Lebanon and the North were filled in the previous week's polls.
Murr refused to say whether Hariri's electoral victory would lead to his return to power, or comment on repeated questions about the possibility of coexistence between the ex-premier and President Emile Lahoud, the paper said.
The minister confirmed that the new Parliament would be sworn in on October 17th, adding that Hoss' incumbent cabinet would remain in office until then.
Murr admitted that he had pre-election "indications" that Hoss would be defeated.
He praised "the dignity and spirit" displayed by Hoss and Salam in dealing with their electoral defeats.
As for Hariri, he said jokingly, "I can only hope that victory won't get him drunk. I know he doesn't drink but sometimes victory can have the same effect as alcohol."
Murr said that Hoss' defeat was "a national loss for Sunnis and for Lebanon."
He said he was also disappointed over the unsuccessful bids of members and allies of the Armenian Tashnak Party, added the paper.
The next Parliament will have only one Tashnak member, Metn MP Sebouh Hovnanian, and one party ally, George Kassardji in Zahle, compared to five Tashnak bloc members in the outgoing Parliament.
The four other Armenian slots were filled by candidates affiliated with the Hentchak and Ramgavar parties, the Tashnak's rivals.
