Over 30 killed and wounded in Iraq attacks

At least five people including an American soldier died and 29 were hurt in a spate of bomb attacks on military patrols in Iraq on Wednesday, police and military officials said. In one attack two Iraqis were killed, including a soldier, and 16 were hurt when a suicide bomber rammed a car into a military patrol in the city of Mosul, 370 kilometresnorth of Baghdad, Iraqi police said, according to AFP.

 

Just 50 kilometres to the south, another two Iraqis died and seven were hurt when a parked car laden with explosives detonated in the small city of Al-Qayarah, police said.

 

In northwest Baghdad, an American soldier died and an Iraqi interpreter was injured by a roadside bomb targeting their patrol, the US military said in statement.

 

Meanwhile, a suicide bomber driving a pick-up truck targeted a convoy carrying Abdul Karim Ali Nassif, chief administrator of the Al-Multaqa district near the city of Kirkuk. The Sunni boss, who is a member "Sahwa" or Awakening, was treated for injuries along with four of his bodyguards.
