Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad said he resigned. According to the AP, Fayyad announced Saturday he submitted his resignation to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
According to him, the resignation will take effect after the formation of a Palestinian unity government but no later than the end of March. The move could pave the way for the creation of a unity government involving Fatah and their rival, Hamas.
Hamas, never recognized Fayyad or his caretaker government, has repeatedly demanded that he step down.
