Qatar´s hosting of Brazil-England classic a fantastic success
Qatar 2022 bid leaders were especially pleased with the level of visiting fan turnout and support at the Khalifa International Stadium and at the three specifically erected fan festivals, packed with 50,000 spectators creating a fantastic atmosphere worthy of a World Cup finals match.
“We are very proud to have hosted such a game between two teams of outstanding calibre and with a great World Cup history,” Qatar 2022 Bid CEO Hassan Abdulla Al Thawadi said after watching the match between two teams which have lifted the World Cup six times between them.
“This is a great opportunity for football fans in the Middle East – who count as some of the most passionate in the world – to see these star of the game first hand and learn from their idols. We are looking for this same inspirational effect in 2022, when we hope to welcome the world to our country, showcase our traditional hospitality again, and to open an entirely new market to the FIFA family,” Al Thawadi added.
“I believe both teams and their fans have seen what a magnificent World Cup Qatar is capable of hosting in 2022. Our fan festivals were a first taste of the family friendly festival of football we wish to offer the world in 2022.”
