Qatar focuses on travelers from Malaysia; builds on existing business partnerships

Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) completes its Asian Roadshow in Kuala Lumpur this evening at the Ritz Carlton. QTA and leading members of the tourism industry in Qatar met with more than 65 travel trade professionals in Kuala Lumpur to boost awareness of Qatar's tourism offerings as a destination for MICE travel (meetings, incentive, convention, exhibition), sport, culture and upscale leisure tourism.
Qatar Tourism Authority has been given the mandate by the Qatari government to organize, enable and supervise the tourism industry in Qatar. Under this mandate, QTA promotes Qatar as an upscale destination at international travel shows targeting the lucrative meetings, exhibitions, incentives and luxury travel industries.
Mr. Ahmed Al Nuaimi, Chairman of QTA said: "As a complement to our participation at international travel exhibitions, Qatar Tourism Authority has organized this roadshow throughout Asia to deepen our ties and to build new relationships with the tourism and travel professionals in Malaysia and the other major cities on the tour. Through this roadshow we aim to build networks facilitating future business in tourism between the State of Qatar and Malaysia."
"Qatar and Asia enjoy a friendly alliance which is strengthened through strong business relationships and strategic partnerships. Many of Malaysia's top companies are involved in the expansion and growth plans of Qatar – including Garuda Berhad, WCT Berhad, UEM, 1Malaysia Development Bhd and more. These companies are involved in the construction of many of Qatar's infrastructure projects such as the New Doha International Airport, and the Dukhan Highway."
"We are also two countries that have strong diplomatic relations, and share the same common views affecting the Muslim world. On this roadshow, we aim to build on these business partnerships and common views, boosting tourism between Malaysia and Qatar."
Qatar Tourism Authority and its delegation held an afternoon session with professionals from the business and incentive travel industry in Malaysia. The event ended with an evening reception which was attended by His Excellency Rashid Mirza Mullah the Ambassador of the State of Qatar in Malaysia, as well as many ambassadors of the Middle East based in Malaysia. Officials from the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents as well as other industry VIPs were also in attendance at the reception. A grand prize drawing took place with the winner being awarded a 48-hours trip to Doha compliments of Qatar Airways, accommodation at the Movenpick Tower & Suites, a city tour by FAL Travelmart Travel & Tours and two VIP tickets to the Asian Football Cup. The winner of the grand prize was Ms. Lamida Ahmed Bidawi of Mitra Tours and Travel.
Many professionals from the travel trade in Malaysia came to learn about Qatar for the first time, and particularly interested in Qatar as a MICE destination. Justin Lai of Parlo Tours Sdn Bhd has not yet been to the Middle East. "This is a great event – I had the chance to meet with many operators and top hotels and have a good idea now about Qatar as a destination. I will look to arrange stop-over tours for my clients transiting between Malaysia and Europe."
Sylvia Siah and Desmond Ang of Travel Hub, met with many participants to find out about Qatar's MICE offerings. Travel Hub organizes MICE events for groups from 100 to 1000 people. "Many of our clients prefer events in China or Hong Kong – but we are looking for a new, fresh destination to introduce to them. Qatar is a convenient option with many good facilities. The facilities at the Grand Hyatt Doha are ideal for the events that we organize. The tour operators we met have offered good ideas for itineraries for our guests to do outside of the exhibition event. We are excited to explore a little further about holding events in Qatar."
Qatar Tourism Authority is accompanied by a distinguished delegation from the hospitality, culture, sports and leisure sectors in Qatar. The delegation includes Aspire Zone, the Asian Cup Qatar Committee, Doha Marriott Hotel, FAL Travelmart Travel & Tours, Grand Hyatt Doha, Grand Regency Hotel, Movenpick Tower & Suites, Museum of Islamic Art, Qatar Airways, Qatar Airways Holidays, Qatar 2022 Bid Committee, Qatar International Adventures, Qatar International Tours, Regency Holidays, Retaj Hospitality, Ritz Carlton Doha, Shangri-La Hotel, Sharq Village & Spa, Unique Choice Qatar and the W Hotel Doha.
The cities on the roadshow include Seoul, Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur. The Qatar Tourism Authority delegation then moves on to the ITB Asia exhibition in Singapore.
