Two people were killed and six injured when unknown assailants attacked a security checkpoint in North Sinai late on Tuesday, state news agency MENA reported.
Witnesses and security sources said a rocket-propelled grenade hit a truck at the Sadr El-Heitan checkpoint, killing Mahmoud Abdel-Ghany, a 27-year-old civilian, and another person yet to be named.
Three members of the security forces and three civilians were injured in the attack.
In the early hours of Wednesday, unknown assailants opened fire at a checkpoint near North Sinai's Al-Arish Airport. Security forces responded with gunfire, but no one was injured.
Another attack early on Wednesday took place at the Central Security Forces camp in Rafah, North Sinai, but left no injuries.
Tensions have been on the rise in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, already troubled by militant activity, since army chief Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi ousted president Mohamed Morsi on 3 July.
On Sunday, an Egyptian border guard was killed and a police officer shot in two separate incidents.
At least six policemen were killed on Friday in separate attacks by unknown gunmen in Al-Arish.
There have been media reports that a military operation will be launched in Sinai soon. No official announcement has been issued, however.
