Iraqi authorities said gunmen killed five people at a security checkpoint in Baghdad. In a separate incident, a car bomb killed a man in the northern city of Mosul, the capital of Nineveh province.
The checkpoint attack in western Baghdad left two Iraqi police officers and three soldiers dead.
The car bomb in the Wadi Hajar neighborhood in southern Mosul targeted but missed a police patrol, killing an 18-year-old man and injuring ten bystanders. The explosion damaged several nearby buildings and cars.
