Sudan confirms air strike during Gaza war

In January, during the Gaza war, the Israel Air Force (IAF) has identified and destroyed in Sudan a convoy of weapons destined to Hamas, said the American network CBS. Authorities in Khartoum, revealed that the incident killed 39 people and accused the Americans. However, the CBS report has said that the jets were Israelis. "A convoy of vehicles carrying illegal weapons was bombed near the Sudanese-Egyptian border in mid-January," state transport minister Mabruk Mubarak Saleem told AFP.
According to the report, Israel’s security agencies uncovered a plan to move weapons through Sudan and then via Sinai into the Gaza Strip. It is suspected the source of the weapons was Iran. During the war, Iranian ships carrying weapons have been impeded to reach Gaza and a merchant navy with explosive’s cargo has been stopped in Cyprus.
Some sources suggested that the Israeli attack occurred in the desert near Mount Al Sha'anoon, North-West of Port Sudan, where 17 trucks and arms dealers have been burned. The Sudanese initially claimed that the incursion could have been launched from a base in Djibouti, which hosts American aircrafts.
