Almost 60,000 refugees return to Syria from Jordan
A Jordanian official said Wednesday that almost 60,000 Syrian refugees have left the Kingdom to return home. Among the returnees, some have gone to fight forces loyal to Bashar al-Assad whilst others were unable to cope with the conditions in refugee camps, AP reported.
Jordan is currently hosting more than half a million Syrian refugees, with 150,000 living in the Zaatari refugee camp in the north of the country. The majority live in urban areas, putting the country's infrastructure under strain. The Syrian refugee contigent makes up around 10% of the Jordanian population.
Anmar al-Hmoud said on Wednesday that a total of 58,641 Syrians who had sought refuge in Jordan have returned to their home country.
