Egypt's ruling military council chief testified in the trial of Hosni Mubarak on Saturday in the trial where the ex-president is accused of responsibility for the deaths of hundreds of demonstrators earlier this year.
Field Marshal Mohamed Hussein Tantawi gave evidence earlier than usual and left the courthouse without allowing the lawyers of the families of the victims to cross examine him.
According to Reuters, Judge Ahmed Refaat, citing national security considerations, had ordered that Tantawi's testimony be heard behind closed doors and under a complete news blackout. The testimony lasted for 90 minutes.
Eyewitnesses said Tantawi arrived in the Police Academy by a car and not helicopter as thought earlier.
