UAE’s ISP Bracing for Doubling Number of Web Users
UAE’s sole Internet Service Provider, Etisalat, is planning to ISP network in the country to cope with the high growth rate among the Internet users in the country, already a telecom hub in the region.
Citing official figures, the Emirati official news agency (WAM) said Etisalat needs to expand its ISP network to accommodate twice the current number of Internet users and subscribers, which currently stands at 870,000, reports said.
Ahmad Humaid Al Tayer, Minister of Transport and Chairman of Etisalat was quoted the agency as saying that the success of electronic commerce lies in its ability to adapt to the conditions of different markets and cultures which is further supported by the constant increase in the number of Internet users.
Speaking at the beginning of a two-day symposium held under his patronage dubbed "Electronic Commerce: Application and Horizons,” he said the rate of increase in the number of Internet users in the UAE is currently one of the highest in the world.
According to the report, the internet users in UAE stands a high percentage, as they count up to 29 percent of the general population, making the UAE one of the top 20 countries in the world which boast of a high number of Internet users.
The Emirati leadership seems to be aware of the fact that the information revolution and the technolgical advances achieved by the country would lead to a gap that needs educators to attend to the new generation with policies aimed at narrowing such a gap between the value system in the conservative Arab country and the fast-pace developments – Albawaba.com
