UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador to Arrive in Jordan
The famous Syrian actor Dureid Laham is scheduled to arrive in Jordan Friday for his first official visit as UNICEF goodwill ambassador, al-Rai daily reports.
During Dureid's three-day visit, he will inspect some children and youth programs initiated by UNICEF in the kingdom. Additionally, he will participate in the events of the Jordanian second environmental campaign, scheduled to begin February 19 under the auspices of Queen Rania in the Hiyya cultural center. The campaign's slogan is: ''Jordan is greener and clean under the hands of its children.''
The prominent artists will also participate in other meetings, including one on domestic violence and another regarding the government's efforts to fight violence against women and child abuse.
Laham is known across the Arab world. He has acquired several nicknames, such as Ghawar Al Toushe or Abu Al Hannah or Wadood. He is famous for being able to play wide-ranging roles. In the words of one journalist: ''Indeed his characters have long come to identify the hopes, fears, frustrations, guilt and happiness of the common man in the street.''
