Yemen Calls on Arabs to Boycott Hollywood Movie
Yemen has called on Arab nations to boycott a Hollywood film it claims portrays Yemenis as "killers and terrorists", local media reported Saturday.
The official Yemeni 26 September weekly said Yemen had asked the 22-member Arab League to demand a boycott of the film "Rules of Engagement" which was released earlier this month.
The film, directed by Academy Award winner William Freidkin and starring Tommy Lee Jones and Samuel Jackson, shows Yemenis clashing with US Marines outside the US embassy in the Yemeni capital Sana'a.
Yemen's Al-Sahwa newspaper said the film contained a number of scenes, which portrayed Yemenis as "terrorists, blood thirsty and cheats".
Al-Sahwa is the official newspaper of the Islamist Islah Party.
It said the film was a "continuation of a Zionist campaign against Arab and Islamic culture".
It added that the film portrays a young Yemeni girl killing an American soldier and justifies US arrogance as a legitimate defense of the innocent - (Several Sources).
