A Yemeni court sentenced six suspected al Qaeda members to death Monday for a series of attacks on Western and government targets throughout the country. Ten other defendants, four Syrian and a Saudi, received sentences between eight and fifteen years in prison on the same charges.
The sixteen men were convicted of carrying out thirteen attacks over the past two years against foreign targets, government buildings, and oil facilities throughout Yemen. Following the announcement of the verdict the defendants chanted, “God is great” in the court that specializes in ruling on terror cases.
“We will liberate the land of Islam between Hadramut (southeastern Yemen) and the Sham (Syria),” they shouted.
