Image 1 of 9: Iran means business: A pre-emptive verbal missive was issued out of Tehran when a war-chief threatened to smash strategic targets across the Mideast in the event of an Israeli attack. Included in any Persian retaliation would be the Gulf's strategic Strait of Hormuz, US bases in the Middle East and Israel itself.

Image 1 of 9: Battening down the cultural hatches: As if they needed to prove to anybody that they were fighting a conflict against the entire world, Iran has not only boycotted this year's Oscars--after an Iranian film was lauded last year--but they have also decided to ban access to Google (including Gmail and YouTube) for not "following Islamic law".

Ahmadinijad calls Israel fake

Image 1 of 9: Artificial States: Iran's President shows that UN mud-slinging matches can be every bit as sophisticated as a 4th grade playground brawl. Deigning not even to decry Israel a fake "country" or even "state", he settled on calling the Zionist Entity a "fake regime". Sticks & stones (or missiles): Dan Merridor is expected to cry his eyes dry now.

Image 1 of 9: Seimens sabotage: Iran shows signs of paranoia and an under-siege mentality when it accuses the German technology agents of trying to destroy their nuclear facilities via masked explosive devices purchased unwittingly by them.

Image 1 of 9: Israelis are comically serious in their gearing-up-for-war-program: their zealous public safety campaign, fronted by a 'muppet', includes gas masks & other protective gear to help 'bunker' down. This is a nation ready to duck and cover to the Iranian threat. Ever security conscious, the Jewish state is taking practical steps to be safe not sorry.

Image 1 of 9: Back off the Iranians already: Ex-Mossad Chief warns Israel not to attack Iran, and wishes the media would stop all the hype and fear-mongering that might kick-start Iran into actually activating a nuclear weapons program - in defense - for fear of this imminent attack.

Hezbollah

  Play

Image 1 of 9: Iran's secret Levant weapon: Hezbollah has said that it is willing and able to defend Iran and attack Israeli and US targets in the event of military action by Israel. Israel is happy to brag its big brother back-up: that the Lebanese-based militant shi'a group that faced-off Israel in the past can easily defend them against Israeli aggression.

Image 1 of 9: Doom and gloom from the Persian horse's mouth: General Mohammed Ali Jafari tells his country people to effectively gird their loins for war: Still the Iranians aren't just following the US- Israel lead in expecting a war or making noises about an all out conflict. A serious duty Iranian military commander has said war is inevitable.

Bibi Netanyahu
  Pause
  Play

Image 1 of 9: Bibi's premonition: the piece de resistance that points to battle cries ahead is Israel's PM Netanyahu's secret war plan - allegedly leaked. The Bibi-Barak plan as it's being touted is all shock & awe and pitched as the real McCoy of modern warfare. A 'technology war' promises zero loss to Israeli life with maximum damage to Iranian power.

The world has been inundated with talk of a new looming war. Not World War III, not quite, but something quite sinister and bound to spill over into a wider threat. The speculated war has so far remained in the realms of rhetoric: overtures, hype, threats and counter-threat flood media channels and posturing and propoganda make up much of the mutual intimidation and sizing up involved ahead of a potential war between Iran and Israel.

Tension between the two nations spoiling for a fight has become increasingly heated as the two square each other up for the showdown. Iran and Israel have been engaging in ramping up the pressure in recent weeks, with Iran saying Israeli announcements leave them 'one step away from the cemetery'. But seemingly neither side is throwing all caution to the wind or staying nonchalant.

Israeli machinations for war took a turn for the comically absurd just last month. A public safety campaign to encourage Israelis to wear gas masks--although these are not distributed to Palestinians living under Israeli control--come complete with an interesting, fluffy little front-man in the form of a muppet. Israelis are now waiting to have to duck-and-cover in the face of an increasingly likely-looking Iranian threat. Adding to the hilarity, it looks like any such war will be the result of Israeli bombast.

The Face-off

Iran, when it's not consumed with finding new ways to have a swipe at Israel, is meanwhile warning its citizens that war is the logical conclusion of this mounting pressure. Iran's president hit out with a blistering insult when he slated Israel as a "fake regime".One could take comfort in the fact that a leader would hardly plunge into a 'real' war with a 'fake' entity now would he?

Will they won't they, he said, she said: the expected war between Iran and Israel is fuelled by a rampant media, alive with hysteria and rumor of missiles and nuclear capacity. Still, the politicians play a large part in stoking the flames and Ahmadinijad recently threatened to blast US military bases along with Israel altogether and the Straits of Hormuz, if provoked.

But how would such a war begin? Would there be a kidnapping provocoation much like that of the Israel-Lebanon 2006 case? More importantly, what form would such an ominous war take? Chemical, technological, and very likely 'modern' and 'hands-free' warfare -- the media and political gossip grape vines are awash with speculation and theories run amock.

Will the growing feeling of hysteria and empty threats amount to a full-blown conflict or is it all of no consequence -  just bombast and bluff? Only time will tell.

Israel has to make one of two choices. wake up to a nuclear blast wiping them off th map, crippling the country at best or to attack iran. choose the least of two evils. iran will use nuclear capabilities against israel eventually, nieve to think otherwise
