Mido announces retirement

Mido has announced his retirement from professional football after 14 years.

The 30-year-old first came to Europe in 2000 when he moved from boyhood club Zamalek to Gent before joining Ajax.

 

After two seasons in Amsterdam, he enjoyed spells in La Liga, Ligue 1 and Serie A and the Premier League.

 

However, he has found first-team football harder to come by in recent months and took to Twitter to confirm that he was hanging up his boots.

"Today I announce that I'm quitting football. I want to thank all those who supported me during my football career, especially Egypt fans," he wrote.

Mido is perhaps best known for his two years at Tottenham, when he helped the club challenge for a top-four finish in 2005-06 whilst on loan from Roma.
