Yaya Toure to quit Man City if new deal isn't sorted by end of week
Toure has reportedly been locked in negotiations with City officials for the past six months and his agent, Dimitri Seluk, claims the 29-year-old wants the situation finalised during the international break.
However, if the parties fail to come to an agreement by Saturday Seluk warned his client would start looking for a new club.
“If he signs a contract in the next three or four days, OK. If not, we will not wait any longer and will start negotiations with different clubs,” he said. “So it means by Saturday we will say ‘Thank you. OK, Yaya will leave in May.’”
Toure is believed to be the club’s highest earner, raking in about $330,000 a week, but Seluk insists the former Barcelona man isn’t seeking more cash. Toure is seen as one of manager Roberto Mancini’s most influential men, but he doesn’t feel valued enough by the rest of the staff at the Etihad Stadium.
As Seluk added: “I do not feel he will stay at City. This is not about money. He wants to leave because of many reasons. He is one of the best players at Manchester City but does not feel the respect of the staff. Only Roberto Mancini respects Yaya.”
Toure is currently away with the Ivory Coast to play in a World Cup qualifier against Gambia on Saturday.
His current deal runs out in 2015 but it’s now claimed he could consider buying himself out of the remainder of his contract, which in theory he can do under Article 17 of FIFA’s transfer regulations.
Should it come to that Toure would have no shortage of suitors after spearheading City’s charge to the Premier League title last season, with French giants Paris Saint-Germain likely to be frontrunners along with Real Madrid and local rivals Manchester United.
Seluk, however, insists City still has time to rectify the situation.
“It’s all strange. It’s not normal to have negotiations for six months about a contract. They have been talking about small details all this time,” he said. “Maybe if the owner speaks to Yaya, maybe he doesn’t know the details.”
