Over $271 million worth of business transactions were conducted at The Arab International Plastic and Rubber Industry Trade Exhibition (Arabplast) and the International Technological Exhibition and Conference for Industrial Machinery (Tekno) exhibitions held in Dubai between March 30 and April 2, 2003.

“With the business transactions increasing by 8.4 percent and visitors increasing by 4.4 percent since last time the exhibitions were held, the accumulating level of industrial market potential and economic development are set to heighten over the next five years,” General Manager of Al-Fajer Information and Services, Satish Khanna.

According to industry specialists at the exhibitions, the plastics industry in general in the Middle East has a vast growth potential given the abundance of energy, raw materials and competitive labor costs, especially in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. This is especially true today, where technologies available can transform ethane gas into the raw materials required, thus cutting down on the cost of production.

Arabplast 2003 witnessed a six percent increase in overall business transactions carried out at the exhibition, from $150 million the last time the exhibition was held, to $159 million this year. The exhibition was attended by a total of 6,542 industry professionals, a 6.67 percent increase over the last time the exhibition was held, where attendance reached 6,133. — (menareport.com)
