48 percent increase in Americans visiting Egypt

The number of American tourists visiting Egypt during the first nine months of 2000 reflected an impressive 48 percent increase compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, reported Al-Gomhouria newspaper. According to official sources, 175,000 American tourists, most of which were business people, had visited Egypt between January and September of this year.

The Egyptian Minister of Tourism, Mamdouh Beltajeh, recently met with an American tourism delegation consisting of 2,500 business people. The minister attributed the existence of this incoming tourism category to the intense advertisement and promotion campaigns launched by the local tourism ministry.

The arrival of business people is hoped to diversify the incoming tourism spectrum to Egypt, especially since the business tourist usually spends an average of 10 days in the country, whereas an ordinary tourist normally stays for only seven days. — (Albawaba-MEBG)
