Approximately 500,000 traffic accidents occurred in the Arab World in the year 2000, resulting in 62,000 fatalities, reports London based Al-Sharq Al-Awsat daily.
These statistics were disclosed during the recent Arab International Traffic safety Conference that took place in Kuwait.
Participants in the convention stressed the important of the media in raising the public’s level of awareness about the dangers of ruthless driving. Proper display traffic rules and regulations was also considered a crucial part of the campaign of alleviating the present problem, as well as the implementation of new traffic laws to help protect the lives of citizens. –(MENA Report)
