Iran’s Abadan based Petrochemical Company has disclosed reports that it anticipates a 60,000-ton output of PVC by March 2002.
Last year, according to Iran’s calendar (beginning March 21), the plant produced approximately 50,000 tons of PVC and 30,000 tons of DDB and caustic acid, reports IRNA.
Mohammad Ka'abi, head of the firm’s Public Relations Office, stated that nearly 90 percent of the plant’s goods are exported or used domestically. He added that the plant employs over 1,000 workers. He also stated that the plant is beneficial to the Iranian economy, as some 95 percent of its industrial needs are locally produced.
He also stressed the fact that production of PVC had increased by an estimated 113 percent as compared to the period of the war with Iraq; production of DDB and caustic acid increased by 240 percent.
Until its privatization in 1990, the Adaban plant was owned by Iran’s National Petroleum Company, a subsidiary of the Iranian Ministry of Petroleum. –(MENA Report)
