In 2002 the vision of The Palm Islands became more of a reality to Dubai with 80 percent of The Palm, Jumeirah’s reclamation and five of The Palm, Jebel Ali’s reclamation having now been completed.

“As at the end of 2002 we are now ahead of schedule and the majority of reclamation of the first of the two islands is significantly finished,” Managing Director - Projects for the Palm, Saeed Ahmed Saeed. “All fronds are in place underwater and we have now passed many of the critical stages of The Palm, Jumeriah’s reclamation”.

According to Saeed some plots on the residential fronds and crescent are ready for infrastructure and construction to commence, and there are plans to begin building model villas on the top two fronds in early in 2003.

The Palm involves the creation of the world’s largest two man-made islands known as The Palm, Jumeirah and The Palm, Jebel Ali. Located just off the coast of the city of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the two palm tree shaped islands are expected to contribute to the city’s position as a premier global tourist destination.

The project will increase Dubai’s shoreline by a total of 120 kilometers and create a large number of residential, leisure and entertainment opportunities. — (menareport.com)
