ABB, the Swedish-Swiss global technology company announced that it has signed a contract worth $93 million to design and build a gas compressor station in Algeria, reported AFP news agency on Monday, August 13.
The station is to be built on the Pedro Duran Farell Pipeline, which is a 1,400 kilometers long gas line that runs from Algeria to Europe under the Straits of Gibraltar. The pipeline is owned and operated by Sonatrach, the Algerian oil and gas company.
The station is to be completed within 27 months.
The new project is expected to increase the flow rate in the pipeline from 8 billion to approximately 11 billion cubic meters of gas per year.
The role of ABB in the building of the new station will be in the fields of engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning. The design of the project will take place at ABB Lummus Global’s office in Milan, whereas construction activities will be carried out by Sarpi—a 50 percent Joint Venture company owned by Sonatrach and ABB.
According to the Petroleum Intelligence Weekly, Sonatrach is ranked twelfth in the world. It is the first oil company in the Mediterranean and the world’s fourth largest exporter of natural gas, and the second largest exporter of LPG. — (Mena Report)
