After strong and aggressive growth through 2006, Acer Computers’ Q3 2006 unit sales show that the global PC giant has simultaneously scaled two UAE ‘summits’ and, for the first time, established itself as the number one vendor in the Emirates for both desktops and notebooks.
Outstripping the market average of 34.9 percent, Acer posted an impressive 52 percent growth in Q3 2006 over Q3 2005 figures. This growth rate, says Acer, was instrumental in seeing the breakthrough, from its previously solid ‘number two’ position, into the UAE’s leading PC vendor.
“We are delighted to take the number one spot for both desktops and notebooks – the UAE is the second largest market in the GCC and one of the most significant IT hubs for the whole of the Middle East and wider region,” said Krishna Murthy, General Manager, Acer Computer Middle East.
One of only two in the region’s top three vendors to post positive year-on-year growth for Q3 2006 (source: IDC EMEA PC tracker), Acer’s desktop PC growth led the charge with a huge 76.9 percent growth on the previous year’s corresponding figures.
Acer’s growth was also impressively consolidated by recording the highest growth in market share for desktops of the ‘top three’ – up 6.2 percentiles to just over a fifth of the total UAE market, at 21.1 percent.
“Across the Middle East, the IT industry is witnessing impressive growth, however, we are exceptionally proud to not only be the number one vendor in the UAE but our ability to continue to achieve such strong year-on-year growth rates is testament to the commitment of our staff, our channel partners and the trust our customers have in our products,” added Murthy.
