ALBAWABA - The Chinese social media site TikTok has implemented measures to limit access to the account of Maximilian Krah, a well-known member of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party in Germany.
TikTok attributed the ban to Krah's provocative content directed towards immigrants, according to remarks given to German media agencies. Krah, the front-runner for the AfD in the elections for the European Parliament, has been reported for repeatedly breaking TikTok's community norms.
As of right now, the access restrictions are in effect and will stay that way for ninety days. Some of Krah's videos have been completely blocked by TikTok, and others are no longer prominently displayed in the "For You Feed" portion of the app.
Earlier, The US House of Representatives has passed a bill with a strong majority, signaling a potential ban on TikTok unless the short-form video platform's Chinese owner divests from its operations.
The move comes amidst growing concerns about data privacy and national security, with fears that ByteDance, TikTok's parent company, could be compelled by the Chinese government to hand over user data.
While thousands of Americans rely on TikTok for various purposes, including sharing resources and earning income, lawmakers argue that the app's ties to China pose significant risks.
