Algeria is listed among six countries to benefit from the new financing program the U.S. will found in keeping with the "Middle East Partnership Initiative" (MEPI) and lanched 18 months ago in favor of the North African and Middle East countries, announced Friday Deputy Spokesman, Bureau of Public Affairs, J. Adam Ereli.
This new program, estimated at $18.5 million, will be raised by the U.S. to finance partnership projects with Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, Egypt, Jordan, West Bank and Gaza Strip in educational fields, university, including improvement courses and specific programs for the promotion of women in the six countries, APS reported.
The universities situated in these states received a global amount of $700.000 to contribute for the imporvement of education, research and to buy the necessary material.
For Algeria, the cooperation program in keeping with MEPI will be centred on the educational system and universities, judiciary reform and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO), Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor, Scott Carpenter told APS during a round table organised Friday by the U.S. Department with the representatives of the Arab press in Washington, on the occasion of the launching of this new program.
