Algeria Seizes Over 25 Tonnes of Cannabis Resin in 2018 so Far

Over 25 tonnes of cannabis resin were seized in Algeria during the first eight months of 2018, including more than 60% in the west of the country, according to a report of the National Office of the fight against drugs and drug addiction (ONLDT).

[ecr] hidden "In total, 25,111.2 kg of cannabis resin were seized during the first eight months of 2018, including 60.49% in the western region of the country," the Office said in its report, quoting the report of the anti-narcotics forces (gendarmerie, police and customs).

The amount of cannabis resin seized during the first eight months of 2018 has decreased by 34.75% compared to the same period of 2017, mainly due to the increased security measures at borders, according to a source close to the Office which notes that despite this decline, the seized quantities are "still high".

According to the report, 31.95% of the seized quantities were recorded in the southern region of the country, 4.22% in the eastern region and 3.34% in the central region.
