Dairy producer, Almarai has extended its support to the Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) by teaming up for a comprehensive environmental campaign. The campaign combines a program of environmental education for schools and colleges running through the last quarter of the year, and a United Arab Emirates (UAE) Clean Up Day in December. The purpose of the campaign is to increase awareness of environmental issues, addressing subjects such as water conservation, energy conservation, waste management and air pollution.

Recognizing the importance of these issues and sustainable development in UAE, Almarai and EEG have announced plans for a Clean Up Day running in unison in Dubai and Abu Dhabi on December 11th in 2002. The Clean Up Day will gather together the environmentally conscious residents of the UAE in a bid to make areas in the country cleaner places to live.

The clean up day will be preceded with a series of educational leaflets and a board game distributed in schools and colleges as well as a series of milk bottle neck collars highlighting key environmental issues.

Almarai was established in 1976 and extended to the UAE in 1984. The company has become one of the foremost food companies in the Middle East with activities varying from dairy and arable farming, dairy processing, to the manufacture, sale, marketing and distribution of a wide range of fresh and long life branded dairy products. With on-going investment in its infrastructure, Almarai is also the largest dairy Foods Company in the world with a herd of 37,500 livestock and a market share of 40 percent of the fresh dairy market in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). — (menareport.com)
