ALBAWABA - Tech giant Amazon revealed on Wednesday that it intends to invest an additional €10 billion ($10.7 billion) in Germany. The company said that €8.8 billion of the funding will be utilized to boost the infrastructure of its cloud computing division, Amazon Web Services, in the Frankfurt area, while the remaining funds will support two new corporate offices, logistics, and robotics.
Amazon added that 4,000 new jobs will be created at three new fulfilment centers: one in Horn-Bad Meinberg (North Rhine-Westphalia), opening in late summer 2024, one in Erfurt (Thuringia), which opened in May 2024, and one in Großenkneten, which opened in August 2023.
As a result of the additional positions, Amazons stated that it will now have more than 40,000 permanent workers in Germany by the end of the year, covering a wide range of functions that span over multiple stages across more than 100 German towns and municipalities.
Following the €7.8 billion AWS European Sovereign Cloud investment revealed last month, Amazon has now disclosed future investments in Germany amounting to €17.8 billion. By the end of 2025, the first AWS Region for the new, autonomous cloud for Europe, the AWS European Sovereign Cloud, will open in the State of Brandenburg.
“Amazon came to Germany over 25 years ago, and we continue to invest in the country. With our teams continually focused on innovation, we’re helping German customers transform the way they work, live, connect and thrive,” said Rocco Bräuniger, Amazon Germany Country Manager, adding that “Our teams work hand-in-hand with state-of-the-art technologies to deliver for small businesses and customers, while AWS enables organizations of all sizes in Germany to grow their businesses and innovate using the cloud.”
