Specialty Malls Investment Company has announced that its unique project -Digital City - is due to be officially ready by 2006, becoming the first specialized and independent home appliances and electronics mall in the Middle East.
"Work on this JOD15 million project is underway to meet the deadlines set in our plan. Digital City will mark the beginning of a series of specialized malls, which we will be launching in Jordan over the next few years,” General Manager of Digital City, Mr. Wasef Jabsheh said.
Jabsheh went on to explain that this new concept in shopping is being brought to life as a direct result of the huge growth in the national ICT sector, and following recent studies that highlighted an increased demand from consumers in the Jordanian market place.
“Digital City aims at providing a distinguished shopping experience by housing the latest electronics brands under one roof, therefore, offering a one-stop-shop for shoppers, saving them time and effort without the hassle of traveling around to different places in the City to purchase what they want," the General Manager added.
Situated in the heart of Amman, in the Shmeisani area, one of the most bustling and vibrant areas in the city, Digital City is placed on a spacious 4,400 sqm2 piece of land. The building’s total size is 17,400 sqm2, which allows it to take up a large number of visitors without being packed.
Consisting of eight floors that include two floors dedicated for parking, three for retail space and another three earmarked as office space, the mall has been designed by HOK, a Canadian architecture firm with an international reputation for designing impressive shopping malls across the world.
Digital City is equipped with the latest state of art amenities such as electronic escalators and elevators, wireless internet connections, reception services, and a food court. In addition, the mall will have electronic advertising boards, a waste disposal unit, advanced fire system and emergency exits, and a progressive security system and staff
The mall will offer onsite services for electronics brands and home appliances dealers, mobile and computer hardware and software companies, offering them a distinctive opportunity to promote their products and service directly to their target audience.
It is worth mentioning that Specialty Investment Malls Company was established in 2004 to handle commercial projects. The company seeks to incorporate a new shopping model by executing a number of specialized malls, which Digital City is considered to be the first.
