We all love free apps and often download them without reading the fine print.
An android app that is designed to help users save battery is under the scanner for stealing data.
Tech blog, RiskIQ has reported about a pop-up update on Android phones that redirects victims to Google Play store to download the hoax app, 'Advanced Battery Saver'.
"Based on those ID numbers, we can say with high certainty that the bot has had at least 60,000 android devices under its control," the blog read.
Once downloaded, this app steals information like location, phone numbers, texts, payments. This stolen info can be potentially used by hackers.
The app also quietly runs an ad-clicker in the background of your device.
