ALBAWABA - Apple announced its new venture into Augmented Reality back in June 2023 by introducing their highly anticipated Vision Pro headset, a mixed-reality headset that allows users to display digital content over their surroundings with 23 million pixels across two displays.
In a new press release, Apple showed off the capabilities of their “new era for computing” as described by Apple’s CEO Tim Cook, with a new collaboration between Apple and Disney, the tech giant said the Vision Pro would release with 150 3D movies through their TV+ and Disney+ streaming subscriptions, enabling users to watch hit movies like Avatar: The Way of Water, Dune, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and The Super Mario Bros. Movie in a new 3D spatial environment.
Multiple tech YouTubers and reviewers were allowed to have a new hands-on demo of the new headset, with big influencers expressing their impressiveness in the Vision Pro but sharing worries about its heavy weight, MKBHD said in a tweet on X (previously Twitter): “wow this thing is really, heavy, not sure how long I’d be able to wear this”, however, Apple claims the device is made with materials picked to make it as comfortable as possible with a custom modular aluminum alloy frame.
The Vision Pro runs on both an M2 and new R1 microprocessors, receiving input from a relatively large array of sensors that includes 12 cameras and 6 microphones as well as 6 sensors, which enables users to control the headset using the motion of their hands and fingers. It encompasses two displays that can show 4K images for each eye. With it being “virtually silent” as Apple describes its ability to stay thermally cool, the Vision Pro has two individually amplified sound drivers that are able to deliver a custom spatial audio experience for each user’s unique eye design.
Apple’s new Spatial Computer is set to release on the second of February with pre-orders opening on the 19th of January this year, selling at a whopping $3,499 for the base 256GB model. Different critics expect a cheaper lower-spec model to release sometime later.
