A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the League of Arab States and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has been signed, creating a framework for both entities to coordinate efforts in setting up and implementing projects of common interest.
The agreement strengthens ties between the two organizations in the fields of telecommunications, information and communication technologies and informatics. It also establishes a mechanism to ensure the coordination, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of a wide range of projects and activities in these fields.
The MoU addresses one of the main purposes of ITU, which is to maintain and extend international cooperation between its Member States for the improvement and rational use of telecommunications of all kinds. As well, it helps to achieve ITU’s mission to promote and to offer technical assistance to developing countries in the field of telecommunications, including sound and television broadcasting.
ITU and the League of Arab State have agreed to identify cooperative mechanisms, which will aim assist the two organizations in developing and implementing multinational programs and projects in areas of common interest and to facilitate participation in the design, finance and implementation of these cooperative programs and projects in Members States of ITU and the League of Arab States.
ITU is a world-wide organization which brings governments and industry together to coordinate the establishment and operation of global telecommunication networks and services. It is responsible for standardization, coordination and development of international telecommunications including radiocommunications, as well as the harmonization of national policies. — (menareport.com)
