Sources at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) recently revealed the names of two firms it had chosen to execute major portions of the Dh16 billion ($4.4 billion) project.

The lead architect for the project will be Hopkins Architects of the UK, known internationally for creating award winning designs, while the global consultancy firm WSP Group was selected as the engineer for the project, according to Khaleej Times.

The two firms will be responsible for developing a 130,000 square meter mixed-used development within the DWTC district. The project assigned to the two companies is designed to enhance the area surrounding the DWTC Tower.

It will include a state-of-the-art convention centre, office and residential towers, hotels and hotel apartments and commercial facilities.

The project will also incorporate the Landmark Tower, retail shopping centers, residential developments, parking facilities and links to the Dubai Light Rail metro system.

Hopkins and WSP are the first two companies to be announced in connection with the DWTC development.

"Our aim is that this first phase of the DWTC masterplan will incorporate iconic design and inspiring architecture. To this end, we have selected two of the world's leading companies to help us achieve this goal," explained Helal Saeed Al Marri Director-General of the Dubai World Trade Centre.
