Plans to destroy a dilapidated mosque in A'ali are underway, despite calls by community leaders to expand and rebuild it. According to GDN, attempts to buy land surrounding the mosque for the expansion project have failed because owners refused to sell.
Area councillor Sayed Abdulla Al A'ali said "Land ownership and construction money are available, but land for the new mosque is not." "I have personally asked owners of lands surrounding the mosque to sell them to the Jaffari Waqf (Endowment) Directorate, but it was difficult since some lands were owned by a number of inheritors.
"There are also lands near the mosque which have not yet been surveyed by the Municipalities and Agriculture Ministry, and this means they are unofficially registered and can't be used.
"Some of the surrounding land has been sold to people from outside the village, who plan to build houses in the near future."
