Bahrain: Islamic Banker of Year Award

Adnan Ahmed Yousif, CEO of Al Baraka Banking Group won the Islamic Banker of the Year Award at the International Industry Awards ceremony during the 2004 World Islamic Banking Conference (WIBC) in Bahrain yesterday. Noor Abid, Managing Partner, Audit and Assurance Business Services: Middle East, Ernst & Young, the award auditors, declared him the winner.

 

The recipient of this prized award is voted for by his peers in the industry. Voting forms were sent out to leading figures within the industry and CEOs and senior executives were asked to vote for the Islamic banker of the year based on three major criteria:  launching innovative products and services to enhance the spectrum of services offered by the industry, facilitating a major transaction, or developing best practice Shari’ah compliant products.

 

Completed Voting forms were sent to Ernst & Young who audited the results for this peer-based recognition award that is presented annually at this conference. Two more prestigious awards were presented at the splendid WIBC award ceremony yesterday.

 

Atif Abdulmalik, CEO, First Islamic Investment Bank was awarded the Outstanding Contribution to Islamic Banking & Finance award for demonstrating strong leadership qualities & long-term strategic impact over the industry and Dr. Said Sa’ad Al-Martan, Chief Executive, Shamil Bank was awarded the WIBC Recognition Award for his contribution to the development of the World Islamic Banking Conference, over an extended period of time.

 

The 11th World Islamic Banking Conference, an annual premier industry gathering on Islamic banking & finance will conclude at the Gulf International Convention & Exhibition Centre in the Kingdom of Bahrain today.
