The United Kingdom (UK)’s Pet Travel Scheme (PETS), which allows dogs and cats meeting its requirements to enter the UK without quarantine from certain will be extended to Bahrain this month, confirmed a press released.

Bahrain will be the 51st country to become part of PETS. The British Embassy in Bahrain has been publishing advice on its website since August last year so that the public can prepare their animals for travel.

Britain’s Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) has approached the transport companies flying scheduled passenger services from Bahrain to Britain to invite them to participate in the scheme.

Dogs and cats entering the UK on flights from Bahrain will have to travel as cargo in a container bearing an official seal. The application of a seal gives an assurance that the animal has not been exposed to infection from rabies during the course of the journey.

More than 45,000 cats and dogs have successfully entered the UK using the PETS scheme since it was introduced in February 2000. To qualify for travel under the scheme the pet should first be microchipped, then vaccinated against rabies, blood tested by a DEFRA recognized laboratory and issued with a PETS certificate. — (menareport.com)
