Landowners in areas directed for the new highway to the BD1-billion Northern Town are complaining that they still can not construct houses following a temporary ban the government promised to lift by May. Building permits were halted by Bahrain's Municipalities and Agriculture Minister Ali Saleh Al Saleh in October 2005 for the route to be officially drawn.
According to the GDN, landowners who have already been granted permission to build in Saraya were however told late last year they would be allowed to carry on construction.
