Bahrain's Cabinet on Sunday moved to break building materials monopolies in order to boost the kingdom's building boom. It has given the private sector an approval to import and sell large quantities of materials. These include cement and ferroconcrete - providing they match quality and technical standards, the GDN reported on Monday.
The Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, approved plans for firms to import materials from various suppliers, and then sell them at affordable prices to consumers. This would "enhance the construction and urbanisation boom in the kingdom," said a BNA report.
